June 16, 2005 - An MV-22 Osprey, assigned to the Ĺ‡ArgonautsĂ“ of Marine Tilt-Rotor Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron Two Two VMX-22, conducts a tactical landing at Raven Landing Zone on board Camp Lejeune Marine Base. The MV-22 was conducting training operations with Marines assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, Platoon 18 currently embarked aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan LHD 5. The V-22 Osprey is a tilt rotor verticalshort takeoff and landing VSTOL, multi-mission aircraft developed to fill multi-service combat operational requirements. The MV-22 will replace the current Marine Corps assault helicopters in the medium lift category CH-46E and CH-53, contributing to the dominant maneuver of the Marine landing force, as well as supporting focused logistics in the days following commencement of an amphibious operation.
