Designed in close collaboration with major airlines and in cooperation with some 60 major airports, the A380 Family starts from a baseline passenger aircraft with a capacity of 555 passengers in three classes over a range of up to 8,000nm14,800km and is designed to cope with the growth in the airline industry. The A380 is about 35 per cent bigger than todays largest aircraft, yet it will have almost 50 per cent more floor place, providing a new way of flying when entering into service end of 2007 and will serve major hubs throughout the world. It will offer airlines an advantage of 15 to 20 per cent lower operating costs than todays largest aircraft and will feature the unique benefits of Airbus operational communality.

6/6A380 hot-and-high trials - Already during the first 1,000 flight hours, hot and high trials were successfully completed in Medellin, Colombia in January 2006, while cold weather trials in February 2006 took place in Iqaluit, Canada, where temperatures reached -30 degrees. Airport compatibility tests at more than 40 airports have been made since the first A380 airport test in Frankfurt, Germany, in 2005. The aircraft received joint European Aviation Safety Agency EASA and Federal Aviation Administration FAA Type Certification in December 2006
