Pod koniec grudnia 2018 r. Trump ogłosił rozpoczęcie wycofania wojsk amerykańskich z Syrii, twierdząc, że IS zostało już w tym kraju pokonane. Podobny scenariusz przewiduje dla Afganistanu.
